“I first came to Lithuania in 1985 through an exchange program. I graduated from Klaipėda University with a degree in shipbuilding engineering,” Taras explains.
He began his professional career at the Baltic Shipyard, where he worked as a works supervisor representing Marino Group.
“Later, I was offered a position at the testing center because I already had experience in quality control of manufactured products. That experience opened new opportunities for professional growth,” he recalls.
Taras says that this stage of his career became the foundation for his current work with specialists.
“My goal is to ensure that only qualified and properly prepared people become part of our team.”
Daily Work at the Testing Center
At the Marino Group testing center, Taras evaluates the qualifications of welders, fitters, and pipefitters.
“I’m not responsible only for the test result. My responsibility is to carefully select the people who will later work on our projects,” he explains.
Working with specialists from different nationalities — Lithuanians, Indians, and Filipinos — requires strong communication and mutual understanding.
“The most important thing is that people want to understand each other. When that willingness exists, neither language nor cultural barriers become an obstacle.”
How to Prepare for the Test
Many new specialists underestimate the importance of knowledge and experience. When asked what is most important for successfully passing the test, Taras explains:
“In most cases, it’s the combination of all skills — technical knowledge, practical experience, and hands-on skills. Theoretical preparation and safety awareness are extremely important. Attention to detail and the ability to listen can also make a decisive difference.”
He advises candidates to start with the fundamentals:
“First, you must understand safety rules — they are relevant for every profession. After that come the technical standards of each trade, which are essential for passing the test.”
